GRE UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 2007

Hi people,

I sincerely apologize for the delay in producing the material for GRE Quant and Verbal preparation database material for September 2007. I hope you do understand that it is only as a result of my painstalking efforts to render the content thoroughly authentic, definitive and reliable. I have furnished the Verbal questions ( Antonyms and Analogies ). Quants questions will follow shortly. I have also tried to provide answers for almost all of them.

Antonyms :

1. Enigma - Ans: Comprehensible (Conundrum was one of the other choices)
2. Profligate - Ans: Provident
3. Equanimity - Ans: Agitiation
4. Predilection - Ans: Aversion
5. Pusillanimous - Ans: Audacious
6. Perfidy - Ans: Loyalty
7. Ignominous - Ans: Laudatory
8. Vacuous - Ans: Intelligent
9. Persistance - Ans: Inconstancy (This is the only choice that appeared possibly correct)
10. Subrosa - Ans: Openly (This question has appeared only once so far)
11. Prefatory - Ans: Conclusive (Prefatory as in 'Preface')
12. Contentious - Ans: Pacific (Dissatisfied and Bellicose were other choices)
13. Ephemeral - Ans: Permanent ( transient and poor-spirited were other choices)
14. Invidious - Ans: Without Prejudice (Hostile, without taste and stubborn were other choices)
15. Coda - Ans: Prelude
16. Puissance - Ans: Powerlessness

Analogies:

1. ANGLE : DEGREE
Ans: area : square inch

2. ALCOVE : RECESS
Ans: dome : roof

3. EPAULET : SHOULDER
Ans. medal : chest

4. OUTSKIRTS : TOWN
Ans: page : margin (the other choices were totally absurd)

5. EQUIVOCATE : COMMITMENT
Ans: procrastinate : action

6. APIARY : BEE
Ans: arboretum : trees

7. FRESCO : WALL
Ans: parquetry : floor (parquetry is a patterned wood inlay used to cover a floor)

8. MENDICANT : IMPECUNIOUS
Ans: Complainer : petulant

9. FLEET : SHIPS
Ans: gaggle : geese

10. PECCADILLO : FELONY
Ans: mistake : error (Pecadillo is a petty misdeed whereas a felony is a grave crime)

11. HUSBANDS : WIVES
Ans: Polyandry : Polygamy ( appeared only once )

12. CAMPANILE : CATHEDRAL
Ans: minaret : mosque

13. ANIMOSITY : ARDOR
Ans: hatred : amour ( I'm not sure about the answer, I was told that the other choices had weak bridges)

14. CO-OPERATION : PARTNERS
Ans : collusion : conspirators

* A few more analogy questions will be added soon. I have either not verified them or have not found the correct solutions. They will be available soon.

I regret the inconvenience caused due to the delay.

All the Best.

Thank you

sincerely,
PRAVEEN CHANDAR.

Hi Praveen,

You're doing an amazing job on gathering all the GRE material together. I just wanted to thank you for the efforts I know this must be involving.

I did have a couple of questions.

First what are your sources for these questions? I ask so that I can go there as well and have a look (I'm taking the GRE on November 9th and as its rather early in the month you might not have the questions posted yet. :))

Second, (this is more in line of a suggestion but you don't have to listen to it at all!). For the verbal analogies and antonyms questions, it might be better if you could also post the other options so that we can work through them and see how ETS is trying to confuse us.

As I mentioned earlier, thanks a lot for your painstaking work.

Best,
anatwork
